Simple Marketing Now Update - June 2011

Simplify Your Marketing!
I have lots to update you on in this June 2011 update from Simple Marketing Now.

First, I'm in the midst of a three-part social media marketing presentation series at my local public library. The first session was the most formal with an overview of social media and the major tools available. The next two will be interactive workshops. If you are interested, you can view the presentation and read a summary that one marvelous participant [and blog subscriber] wrote - just click on the link.

Second, I'm hard at work on the Simple Marketing Now website so it supports my business better. I'll start including those blogposts here.

[If you are new to Flooring The Consumer, I also write the Simple Marketing Blog where I discuss marketing strategy and creative, practical, simple marketing approaches and share best practices - many of which may be relevant to you and your business as you consider what's possible.]

Simple Marketing News for June 2011

Here is the introduction to the new blog on the Simple Marketing Now website: Welcome to the Content Talks Business Blog!

And very exciting news: 25 Flooring Women To Reckon With! FCN Anniversary Issue [I'm only just getting to creating a press release about this. You'll see that in the next Simple Marketing Now update.]

Social Media Marketing Resources:

I attended and presented at the MarketingProfs B2B Forum 2011. As usual, the learnings from that event were intense and plentiful! I'm not finished, but here is what I've summarized so far:

Two very practical blog articles that focus on what matters most in business: How Do I Get More Business? 13 Tips and The Business of SEO: Get Found.

Finally, here are the latest links to articles and news about practical marketing on Twitter, coded #PracticalMktr:

Simple Marketing News for May 2011

My biggest news from May had to do with the presentation that I gave last week at the MarketingProfs B2B Forum 2011 in Boston.  Here is the release: Generate More Leads With Social Media: MarketingProfs B2B Forum Presentation Offers Advice. [Thank you to those of you who helped me out with Survey: How Do You Generate Leads? Need Your Help!]

Social Media Marketing Resources:

I have many social media marketing resources to share with you. Dave Foster and I continued our social media marketing series with a focus on Google For Search & Discovery: TalkFloor Social Media Marketing Series.

I recapped the fascinating panel discussion I took part in in April in Social, Mobile, Legal: NY Law School 2011 Conference.

I recaptured Right Brain/Left Brain in Business: a CBSAC/NY Event [where I reconnected with CBS classmates!] and commented on the significance of the Social Flooring Index update in Online Conversations Evolve on Floor Covering Institute.

Simple Marketing Now Update - April 2011

Simplify Your Marketing!

April 2011 SIMPLE MARKETING NOW UPDATE

Greetings! I hope April treated you well and that May looks to be full of promise. How are you finding business? I'm hearing reports of cautious optimism. Is it the same for you? I'd love to hear more.

Meanwhile, here follows the April 2011 update from Simple Marketing Now with posts categorized into Social Media Marketing Resources and Simple Marketing News.

[If you are new to Flooring The Consumer, I also write the Simple Marketing Blog where I discuss marketing strategy and creative, practical, simple marketing approaches and share best practices - many of which may be relevant to you and your business as you consider what's possible. The blog also acts as newsroom for Simple Marketing Now.]

Simple Marketing News for April 201

Things have been busy on the Press Release side, as you can tell from these three announcements in April:

Please pay special attention to the update of the Social Flooring Index. This update highlights many changes since August 2010 and I'd love to hear your reaction.

I also summarized for you my Coverings 2011 presentation: How To Improve Your Digital Visibility: Coverings2011, detailed the FCA Network Annual Convention Presentations, described the experience of participating in the Surfaces StonExpo 2012: Education Program Planning and highlighted my contribution to Chief Content Officer Magazine & Technology!.

Social Media Marketing Resources:

The more I am immersed in social media marketing, the more critical I consider guidelines. Interestingly, companies have plenty of opportunity to do better as I discovered researching Facebook Fan Page Guidelines or House Rules and LinkedIn Group Guidelines or Rules of Engagement. What are your reactions to guidelines and house rules?

My March 2011 MarketingProfs article became a Get to the Point short article in 10 Reasons You Shouldn't Ignore Social Media.

I'd love to hear your take on How Are You Finding New Customers?

Finally, here are the latest links to articles and news about practical marketing on Twitter, coded #PracticalMktr: Practical Simple Marketing in the News - 4/22/11 and Practical Simple Marketing in the News - 4/29/11.

Simple Marketing Now Update - March 2011

Simplify Your Marketing!

March 2011 SIMPLE MARKETING NOW Update and Looking Toward April

We may be fully immersed in April, but I think you will enjoy these updates from this past March from Simple Marketing Now. I've categorized posts into Social Media Marketing Resources and Simple Marketing News.

Looking toward April, I'd love your input!  Over these next few weeks, I intend to explore several ideas that have been percolating for a while.

One includes a series focused on reviewing business blogs and offering suggestions for improvement. If you have a blog and would like to be included, please let me know.

Another has to do with questions small and medium businesses and retailers have about integrating digital and social tools into their retail and business experience. What is working for you? What isn't? What questions are your grappling with ? I'd love to hear.

Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Simple Marketing News for March 2011

March was intense - to say the least!  Not only did I take part in my inaugural online seminar with MarketingProfs - see Press Release: Concerned About Managing Your Company's Reputation in a Social World? - but I also celebrated two years as Simple Marketing Now!  Details are in Happy Simple Marketing Blog Birthday #2!

I was invited, too, to take part in a New York Law School panel discussion - see Press Release: New York Law Panel Discussion 4/4/2011 - during which many aspects of privacy, disclosure and consumer protection came up.  I plan on summarizing many of those points in a separate blog post.

Social Media Marketing Resources:

At the beginning of March, I participated in the annual BRITE Conference at Columbia Business School. I summarized highlights in BRITE Conference 2011: Highlights and BRITE Conference: Steve Rubel & 11 Digital Trends to Follow in 2011.  I particularly enjoyed meeting in person BL Ochman from What's Next? Blog and Denise Lee Yohn from Brand as Business Bites.  Denise is as fascinated about the retail experience as I am and we've already had one conversation during which we shared retail observations. I'm looking forward to more!

Here is a summary from my MarketingProfs online seminar: Managing Your Social Reputation: Highlights which also inspired this post: How Do I Increase My Followers? - a topic that comes up in every presentation I've made...

Would you help me get the word out? I'd really appreciate it. [FYI -  I just learned that my sister will be attending. Very cool! :-).]. I've created an event on Facebook, and plan to get one created on LinkedIn, too. I apologize in advance if I bombard you multiple times with messages about Managing Your Reputation in a Social World. It's just that I'm *really* excited!

If you plan on attending Coverings 2011, March 14 through 17, 2011 at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV, please let me know. Last week, I attended Coverings 2010 in Orlando, FL - my first time experiencing the show. I loved the installation showcase featuring five bathrooms built over the course of the show, each representing a different design inspiration which the designers described during a panel discussion. I also got to take part in a Tweetup [a meetup organized over Twitter] with Veronika Miller, Paul Anater, Arpi Nalbandian, Bill Buyok, Zoe Voigt and Marilyn Russell.

While in Orlando, Chris Ramey invited me to speak to The Luxury Marketing Council Orlando [see Press Release: Whittemore Addresses The Luxury Marketing Council Orlando] about the customer experience, marketing to women and generally 'Flooring The Consumer.'

At Coverings, I regrouped with my partners in presentation - Paul Friederichsen and Scott Perron - for a reprise of our three-hour workshop [see Press Release: Whittemore Addresses Social Media Media Marketing at Coverings 2010].

In other news, I'm really pleased that Simple Marketing Blog is now a Junta42 Top 42 Blog! I'm keeping track of, on the Floor Covering Institute Blog, Posts Published and I created Interview Archives - 2009 from the Simple Marketing Now website.

Social Media Marketing Resources

My latest addition to the 'How Do I?' series - How Do I Deal With Negative Comments? - deals with a topic that comes up in every introductory social media conversation I've participated in. It's also the subject of a session that I will be leading on May 25th, 2010 at the next Social Media Club North Jersey meeting titled "I love you. I hate you. Customer feedback in a social world.

Flooring eNewsletter #2 From Simple Marketing Now

Simple Marketing Now Flooring eNewsletterI'm pleased to share with you the latest issue of my Simple Marketing Now Flooring eNewsletter! Comments, feedback and suggestions are welcome!

Greetings!

And, Happy Springtime!

Based on discussions at Surfaces, many of you are experimenting with and implementing new approaches for connecting with customers. Which are you having the most success with? How are you adapting the rest of your business strategy to take into account your successes? I’d love to hear your stories.

By the way, my visit to Zappos HQ during Surfaces has so far inspired one Floor Covering Weekly column – “Powered by service” - and two blogposts – Zappos & Service and Zappos Embodies Customer Service.

Flooring in the News!

The Carpet and Rug Institute Blog just celebrated its first blog birthday! Please join me in congratulating Bethany Richmond, James Beach and all of the CRI Blog contributors.

In the latest update to The DOMOTEX Blog, Katherine Léon announces an event being held in Dalton, GA on 4/27/10. Titled Expanding Your Flooring Business In The International Marketplace, it features industry experts. For more information about the workshop, click on this link.

The Social Flooring Index is being updated. So far, Twitter and Facebook listings for April 2010 are available. If you notice any accounts missing, please let me know.

The Floor Covering Institute Blog welcomes new members Donato Pompo and Ruud Steenvorden.

Care to practice your Twitter skills? Join @DaveTalkFloor and @CBWhittemore on Twitter. Use #TalkFloor to ask questions. Or, simply listen to our TalkFloor interview series. Click on this link for information – including show notes – on the first two segments: What is Twitter & Why Should I care? Then, when you’re ready, let me know… and we can tweet!

How do customers find you? How do you connect with them?

How do you ensure that customers find you and your business? Once they have found you, how do you go about connecting with them?

The solution calls for plenty of traditional elements – from talking to people ‘belly to belly’ as Big Bob’s Scott Perron says, to ensuring that your brand is relevant to your audience as Brand Biz’s Paul Friederichsen urges.

It also calls for digital and social solutions to reach customers where they increasingly spend time – online, on social networks – doing research in anticipation of making purchase decisions.

That’s what Scott, Paul and I will address at Coverings 2010 in Orlando on Friday 4/30/2010 from 8:30am to 11:30am when we present Marketing in a Recession 101. We hope you will join us! Click here to read the Coverings press release.

Other happenings in Orlando: The Luxury Marketing Council Orlando has invited me to discuss marketing to women, the retail experience and developing community in a presentation titled “Flooring The Consumer: Developing Community & Delivering Wow!” on 4/28/2010. Click here to read the press release.

Thank you for reading!
